U of M Continues as NCR-SARE Host Institution

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) announced on February 9 that the University of Minnesota would continue to serve as a host institution for the North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE) program, directed by Beth Nelson. NIFA’s SARE program supports farmer-focused solutions that boost production, increase profitability, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance quality of life in rural communities.
The University of Minnesota will serve as the NCR-SARE host institution for the next five years, through fiscal year 2022. Each Regional host institution collaborates with NIFA to implement regional competitive grant and outreach programs as guided by the Regional Administrative Council.
“We are delighted to continue SARE's important work in our region, and gratified by the confidence placed in us by our stakeholders with this decision,” says Nelson. “We appreciate the support from CFANS in hosting the program here and helping us award and manage more than 100 new projects every year.”
SARE-funded projects, listed online, offer abundant examples of how SARE applies research and technology to help producers prosper, strengthen stewardship of private lands, encourage rural prosperity, and facilitate economic development.
