As a revived crop in the North Central region, best practices for high-cannabinoid hemp varieties are still under investigation. Despite strong interest, the lack of university-published resources increases production risks compared to conventional crops, threatening the emerging hemp industry.
The Midwestern Hemp Research Collaborative (MHRC), supported by SARE, was formed to address these issues. This joint effort of universities, non-profits, and private labs has partnered with farmers to conduct hemp cultivar trials, rapidly generating relevant research-based information for the industry.
The Midwestern Hemp Database (MHD) is an interactive tool that houses all of the research done by the Midwestern Hemp Research Collaborative (MHRC). The MHRC uses grower-collaborator networks to offer research-backed regional insights into the agronomic performance and cannabinoid development of hemp varieties.
