In June 2020, NCR-SARE worked with Maggie Norton, farmer outreach coordinator for Practical Farmers of Iowa, to offer two webinars for SARE grantees about hosting virtual field days. The first webinar was hosted with agricultural professionals and educators in mind, while the second webinar was geared toward farmers and ranchers. This one-hour training explains how Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) uses Zoom and Facebook Live to conduct virtual field days. Maggie Norton, PFI’s farmer outreach coordinator, describes the pros and cons of each platform, outlines the behind the scenes steps necessary to pull the event off, discusses equipment considerations and shares best practices and tips learned so far!

This one-hour training explains how online platforms like Facebook Live and Zoom can be used to host virtual field days. Maggie Norton, Practical Farmers of Iowa’s farmer outreach coordinator, summarizes the virtual field day essentials and provides a spectrum of event options that accommodate various limitations (time, internet reliability, access to video/audio equipment, etc.). Maggie also shares some best practices and tips learned so far this field day season.
