Grant Review Committees

The NCR-SARE Technical Committee and other grant program review committees review proposals and make recommendations to the Administrative Council. Recommendations and self-nominations to serve on NCR-SARE grant program review committees are welcome. To be considered, complete this online form.

Research and Education Grant Program Review Committee (Technical Committee)

The NCR-SARE regional Technical Committee (TC) reviews Research and Education (R&E) grant proposals and provides feedback about the program. It is a 20-member committee representing the region with expertise in areas designated by SARE legislation.

  • TC members review about 15 - 20 proposals in April and May and attend a 1.5-day in-person meeting in June each year to discuss proposals in Saint Paul, Minnesota. NCR-SARE also recruits two to three external reviewers with expertise specific to each proposal to review.
  • Members of the NCR-SARE Technical Committee may not apply for SARE Research and Education grants during their time on the Committee.

Farmer Rancher Grant Program Review Committee

The Farmer Rancher Grant Review Committee reviews Farmer Rancher grant proposals and provides feedback about the program. Members should be a farmer or rancher to serve on this review committee.

  • Members review 25-30 Farmer Rancher Grant proposals in December and January, and attend a 2-day in-person meeting in February each year to discuss proposals in St. Charles, Missouri (near St. Louis).
  • Members of the NCR-SARE Farmer Rancher Grant Review Committee may not apply for SARE Farmer Rancher grants during their time on the Committee.

Partnership Grant Program Review Committee

The Partnership Grant Program Review Committee reviews Partnership grant proposals and provides feedback about the program.

  • Members review 15-20 or more Partnership Grant proposals in November and December and participate in a 2-3 hour conference call meeting in early January each year to discuss proposals.
  • Members of the NCR-SARE Partnership Grant Review Committee may not apply for SARE Partnership grants during their time on the Committee.

Professional Development Grant Program (PDP) Review Committee

The Professional Development Grant Program (PDP) Review Committee reviews PDP grant proposals and provides feedback about the program.

  • Members review approximately 15 or more PDP proposals in May and June and participate in a 2-3 hour conference call meeting in late June each year to discuss proposals.
  • Members of the Professional Development Program Committee may not apply for SARE Professional Development Program grants during their time on the committee.

Graduate Student Grant Program Review Committee 

The Graduate Student Grant Program Review Committee reviews Graduate Student grant proposals and provides feedback about the program.

  • Members review 15-20 Graduate Student Grant proposals in April and May and participate in a 2.5-hour conference call meeting in June each year to discuss proposals.
  • Members of the Graduate Student Grant Program Review Committee may not a graduate student apply for a grant during their time on the committee.

Youth Educator Grant Program Review Committee

The Youth Educator Grant Review Committee reviews Youth Educator grant proposals and provides feedback about the program.

  • Members review 25-30 Youth Educator Grant proposals in November and December and participate in a 2-hour conference call meeting in January each year to discuss proposals.
  • Members of the NCR-SARE Youth Educator Grant Review Committee may not apply for SARE Youth Educator grants during their time on the committee.
